A Blessing of the Green is layered with imagery and meaning, and then further infused with symbolism and whimsical implications. To unpack its significance, one needs to look closer at the fairies who whisk you back to the days of your youth to revisit legends and folktales such as Cinderella and Peter Pan. They are as old as time itself, and within that, lays the blessing – the wisdom of the ancients.
You are encouraged to use your knowledge, whether learned or innate, to nurture the life-giving energy of Mother Earth. Fairies protect the outdoors, specifically the trees in the forest. They take this role very seriously, vehemently even. As humans we too have a responsibility to protect the Earth.
In Tarot, the Three of Pentacles is the card of the apprentice. It is about taking all we’ve learned – from our coaches and mentors, including the ancients – and putting it into practice. It is time the student becomes the teacher. We can all do our share to minimize the damage currently inflicted on our environment. Whether it’s planting trees, shopping locally and seasonally, or simply recycling, we can all do something to reduce our carbon footprint for future generations to come. This is the duty which comes when accepting a Blessing of the Green.
