February 19th - March 20th
Pisces is the last of the zodiac signs and symbolizes endings, just as Aries is the first of the twelve signs - signifying new beginnings, starting over. In the sky, the zodiac constellations surround us in a circle formation, and a circle is infinite. Similarly, Pisces represents the concept of eternity, the endless journey, a pilgrimage of reincarnation, of birth, and rebirth.
The Pisces glyph is composed of two crescent moons connected by a straight line. This is to illustrate emotion and higher consciousness connected to, and restricted by, the material world. These are the attributes of the Twelfth House of the Unconscious which Pisces rules.
Where Sagittarius speaks to religion, Pisces addresses Spirituality. This feminine sign is therefore drawn to metaphysical practice and she has a natural curiosity for the occult. It is very important Pisces works toward her Divine capacity and Spiritual growth.
“Forces of light on earth shall overcome the force of darkness. Complete spiritual enlightenment on earth will occur.” – Edgar Cayce, Clairvoyant, Psychic & Pisces
If she's not intently seeking and/or working within this realm, she has the potential to become negative and overindulge, with the risk of escapism through alcohol, drugs, sugar and/or unhealthy relationships.
“I bought a gun and chose drugs instead.” – Kurt Cobain, Singer/Songwriter, Musician & Pisces
Ancient astrologers called Pisces the sign of Sorrow from Self-Undoing. It is this need for escape from reality which can cause Pisces to turn to addiction. Her symbol, two fish tied together facing in opposite directions, is meant to represent the conflicting emotions and desires which pull in contrasting trajectories. This state can only be mastered when Pisces takes charge of her own life, makes decision for her greater good and lets go of the negative influences from others.
“Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” – Johnny Cash, Singer/Songwriter & Pisces
Not only does Pisces close the zodiac circle, she’s also the last sign of the winter season. We travel from the fixed air energy of Aquarius to the mutable waters of Pisces. It’s this composition which allows her to easily adapt to the ever-shifting currents around her. Obviously, she is ruled by Neptune, god of the sea, planet of mystery, illusion, and deception. Like the other water signs (Cancer and Scorpio), she can see deeply into the human psyche. But of all the zodiac signs, Pisces is the most affected by her immediate environment and those within it. She’s the one you hand your dying plant to so she can work her magic, and the one who brings home strays to provide a roof and a warm meal.
“It’s all about hope, kindness and a connection with one another.” – Elizabeth Taylor, Actor & Pisces
Deeply empathetic, she is the epitome of the saying: “to walk a mile in the moccasins of another.” Here in lies her Achille’s heal. She struggles with understanding boundaries, let alone setting them. The inability to say “no” leaves her drained and vulnerable. Because of this, she is in danger of giving away her power to anyone who needs it, in sacrifice of her own strength.
“I’m just afraid I’m gonna miss it all… being married… being a mother.” – Karen Carpenter, Singer, Musician & Pisces
Her ability to feel deeply is both a boon and a cross. She can experience tremendous joy and euphoria, while enduring great sorrow and grief.
“Love – the beauty of it, the joy of it, and yes, even the pain of it – is the most incredible gift to give and to receive as a human being. And we deserve to experience love fully, equally, without shame and without compromise.” – Elliot Page, Actor, Producer & Pisces
However, because of her bleeding heart and earnest desire to help, heal and fix, she has a tendency to choose the wrong partners. In doing so, she may be in relationships with others who are unable to return the love and support she provides so selflessly.
“But I don’t think there’s any reason to get married again, especially after what I’ve been through.” – Liza Minnelli, Actor, Singer & Pisces
Pisces is perceptive, with intrinsic knowing, because she understands first with the heart and then reasons with the mind. She is subtle, intuitive, and her hunches and first impressions of others are rarely wrong.
“I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability.” – Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Lawyer, Jurist, Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court & Pisces
To others she is seen as a natural role model and teacher. But deep down inside she lacks self-confidence with the thought pattern of: “Why me?”, instead of: “Why not me?”. As a result, she may count herself out before it begins. She doesn’t crave the spotlight, preferring to work behind the scenes to make others look great. She may be your make-up artist, fashion designer or photographer. Because of her emotional side, Pisces is rarely drawn to the world of business or commerce. She may also shy away from teamwork, choosing to work alone. She doesn’t like the responsibility of being held accountable and may therefore choose the road of least resistance. Like other mystical signs, Pisces is drawn to creative career paths like the artist, musician, and writer.
“Art is about emotion; if art needs to be explained it is no longer art.” – Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Artist & Pisces
This is because the dreamy world she lives in, is much more fun than that of reality. She is not often materialistic and as a career, Pisces is happiest when she can blend her real life with that of her imagination.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Imagination is the language of the Soul. Pay attention to your imagination and you will discover all you need to be fulfilled.” – Albert Einstein, Physicist, Nobel Prize Laureate & Pisces
She prefers to see the best in people, unearthing the inner qualities of what makes each individual special. She sees the inner Soul of others, and beyond the masks people wear.
“Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies that everyone loves.” – Drew Barrymore, Actor, Producer, Director & Pisces
As a result, she can have a rose-colored view of the world and the issues within it. Lost in her fairytale world, she assumes all things have a happy ending.
“Be like a bird who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath winds.” – Victor Hugo, Poet, Novelist, Dramatist & Pisces
In the right relationships, Pisces is valued greatly for her empathy and compassion. It is exactly this sensitivity to the vibrations of others that makes this sign so vulnerable and tender. She leaves a strong impression on those she touches and enhances the lives of those who are fortunate to be in her company.
